Is there such a thing as too much social media activity? For many social media users, it can be tricky to find the perfect amount of content to post throughout the month. Although each audience is different, there are general guidelines that users can try out. Keep reading to find out which frequency can work best for you!
Too Many Posts
In some cases, posting too much can cause more harm than good. Sometimes, an overabundance of posting can turn your content into “white noise.” This means other users will start to tune your content out and scroll past it without liking, commenting, or sharing. Eventually, social media AI will begin to recognize that your audience is not responding well to your content. AI will keep your content at the bottom of your audience’s newsfeed, meaning they have a much smaller chance of ever seeing the post. This isn’t always the case, but it is impossible to predict exactly who will see your content and when. Avoid posting too much to keep your audience interested!
Too Few Posts
On the contrary, users can face difficulties when they don’t post enough. An account with little activity looks odd to other users and social media AI. For example, say a buyer stumbles across a real estate agent’s business page. There haven’t been any recent posts for the past three months, and the posts that are there only have a few likes. More likely than not, that buyer will not reach out to the owner of that business page for real estate help. However, a buyer who finds an account with recent posts knows that the agent is still actively working in the industry. Plus, social media AI is more likely to place posts from active accounts in the eyes of users. Unused social media accounts are an untapped source of potential! Social media users should maintain activity on their accounts to show their audience and AI that they are successfully working in the industry.
Perfect Frequency
No two audiences will be exactly the same, but there are suggested posting guidelines available for social media users to get the best response possible. Generally, social media users can aim to post about two to four times a week while maintaining a good response rate from their audience. However, the topic, format, and content can have an effect on how people interact with the post. Posts that highlight a user’s personal life often perform better than strictly business-geared posts. Additionally, some audiences do not respond well to constant posting throughout the week - and vice versa. To get the best response from your audience, try posting at different frequencies and with varying types of content. Over time, you’ll be able to see what your audience responds well to!
In truth, there is no such thing as a “perfect posting frequency.” However, social media users can practice different posting techniques to get an idea of what their audience likes best. Don’t be afraid to try out something new - if a post “fails” one day, there’s always tomorrow to try something different.
